The Phenomenon called Slumdog Millionaire

What do you get when a director with a penchant for the grotesque takes the premise of a bestseller, wraps it in the setting from another bestseller, bastes it with Bollywood flavours, spices it with irresistible visuals & music and rounds it off with a casting that carries off the whole ensemble with panache rarely seen from established actors?

Slumdog MillionaireYou get Slumdog Millionaire. A joyous, at times gory but always entertaining, Bollywoodesque ode to destiny, friendship and love.

Several thousand words have already been written about Slumdog Millionaire in the form of reviews, blog posts, etc. I do not plan to review the movie here. Far more eloquent writers have done that already. These are just my thoughts on what made Slumdog... a worldwide phenomenon - a hands-down winner at the Golden Globes and a prime candidate for Oscar glory.Read more... )

I mean... seriously!!

When you take yourself too seriously, there comes a time when you think people actually are just sheep who need direction and that you are the one to judge what's right for them!

Do you know what (or who) I'm talking about?!

In any case... that's why I like to seriously engage in the constant pursuit of not taking myself too seriously! :-D

Bridge Of Sighs... not.

Date and Walnut cake...

In my last five posts here, I have talked about food and/or posted photos. Today, I thought I'd combine those two and come up with a post that has food photos! Ain't I clever?! ;-)

Last weekend, I tried my hand at a typically British recipe (Scottish to be exact)... the Date and Walnut cake, which is supposed to be a tearoom favourite. This post is a shot at walking through the process of making this cake. The measures of ingredients and the recipe itself are merely guidelines for you to follow. Because, unless you are a stickler for exact measures or directions, cooking is (or should be) a process of improvisation and creativity.

Ohh by the way... Happy Independence Day!!
